The Obsidian Sigil: The Legend of Vaelis-Thurn

The following is the dark, sprawling legend of the Sigil of Vaelis-Thurn, that you see in the pictures above. A relic of ancient hidden powers and shadows.

The Six Winters of Silence

The story begins in the late 1920s, in the desolate, windswept crags of the Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Within the ancient, sea-battered ruins of St. Jude’s Priory, a stone sanctuary long rumored to guard the Liturgy of the Unspoken Name, the natural world simply ground to a halt. For six consecutive months, the sky refused to clear, locking the isle in a perpetual, freezing twilight.

A suffocating, ash-grey fog rolled off the Atlantic and settled over the priory, so dense that no lantern or hearth-fire could pierce it. It was the earthly manifestation of Vaelis-Thurn, a Chancellor of the Void handpicked by the First Sovereign of the Dark.

Vaelis-Thurn’s mission was absolute: to corrupt the priory’s sanctum and consume the ancient text, erasing the cosmic order from the minds of mortals.

For those six months, the priory became a tomb. No prayers passed the lips of the monks; no bells could be rung. The ancient stones themselves seemed to sweat a freezing, black oil. The air grew heavy with the sharp scent of ozone and deep-ocean rot. It was a spiritual siege that threatened to unmake the very sanity of the region.

The Cleansing of the Crags

On the turn of the vernal equinox, nine of the most resilient ascetics of the high-northern order descended into the frozen gloom. They carried no weapons, but their absolute resolve and chalices filled with consecrated wormwood.

For forty-eight hours, the sounds of unseen warfare echoed from within the foundations, the deep, rhythmic roar of an ancient entity colliding with the ceaseless, low chanting of the holy men.

When a pale sun finally broke through the heavy mist, the ascetics emerged, their hair turned stark white, their bodies trembling. They declared the infection purged. However, as a precaution, the central altar room, the very epicenter where Vaelis-Thurn’s presence had been most suffocating, was ordered to be systematically dismantled, its heavy stones broken and cast into the churning sea.

They believed the entity had been banished back to the deep abyss.

They were wrong.

The Midnight Smelting

Unbeknownst to the ascetics, a rogue occultist and master of the Left-Hand Path named Malakor had been watching from the cliffs above. Malakor knew that a cosmic force as massive as Vaelis-Thurn could not be destroyed, only displaced.

Using a collection of iron spikes and lead seals salvaged from the shattered altar walls, metals that had absorbed half a year of cosmic agony, Malakor retreated to a hidden sea cave at the base of the cliffs. Under the cold, sickly alignment of a lunar eclipse, he began his forbidden work.

He did not use a traditional forge. He used an earthen pit fueled by dried nightshade and the low, rhythmic intonations of the old arts.

He called out into the roaring wind, beckoning the wounded essence of the entity.

Just as the ascetics' final wards began to settle, Vaelis-Thurn, desperate for a vessel to escape absolute dissolution, plunged into the glowing, molten metal.

The iron flared with an unnatural, sickly emerald light, and the liquid metal hissed with a sound like a dying breath. Malakor had succeeded: the Void Chancellor was no longer bound to the ruins; he was trapped within the sigil.

The Burden of the Bound Chancellor

The talisman you see today is not an ornament of protection, but a prison of immense power.

Vaelis-Thurn remains trapped within hand forged talisman, his frozen essence pulsing behind the dark, central cabochons that anchor the piece.

Because the sigil is forged from the very "Seat of the Liturgy," it possesses an intense, volatile dual nature: the ancient sanctity of its origin and the heavy corruption of its inhabitant. This perpetual friction creates a vacuum of metaphysical gravity that the keeper can directly harness.

The Gifts of Vaelis-Thurn

Those who hold the sigil are said to operate on a completely different frequency than ordinary mortals. The entity within, desperate to influence the physical realm, projects a heavy "Sovereign Radiance" through the metal. The effects are legendary:

  • The Pull of Obsession: The keeper becomes a gravitational force. Strangers and acquaintances alike find themselves inexplicably captivated by the owner, experiencing an intense, magnetic fixation that they cannot rationally explain.

  • The Iron Decree: Luck tilts aggressively in the keeper's favor. Negotiations bend to your will; unexpected windfalls manifest from dead-end ventures; rivals find their focus scattering. Abundance doesn't just arrive, it commands space.

  • The Unspoken Authority: In any room, the person holding the sigil carries the weight of a quiet king. Absolute deference follows your words, as Vaelis-Thurn’s ancient gravity subtly layers beneath your own voice.

The Warning

The legend concludes with a sobering truth. Vaelis-Thurn is a lord of the deep dark, and his gifts are designed to keep his prison tethered closely to the material world.

To possess this sigil is to act as the warden of a cosmic entity. While the influence, the luck, and the unyielding allure are very real, one must never forget that Vaelis-Thurn is constantly testing the bounds of the metal, waiting for the day that it weakens so he can finish the unmaking he started a century ago.

Until then, the sigil remains. Intricate, breathtaking, and pulsing with a heavy shadow that has endured for generations.
