Trapped Witch Spirit Antique Glass Bottle Elizabeth Howe Violent Haunted Salem
The air in Salem had barely cleared of smoke and damp earth when the rumors began.
Elizabeth Howe was dead, swallowed by the executioner’s rope on Proctor’s Ledge, but the fury she left behind didn't die with her. It lingered like frost on autumn grass, sharp and stinging. Elizabeth hadn't been a wicked woman in life, but the injustice of her end kindled a violent, consuming flame.
In the weeks following her execution, strange things began happening around the edges of Ipswich and Salem.
Mirrors cracked without cause. Horses kicked through their stall doors in unprovoked terror. Whispers swept through the settlement that Elizabeth’s lingering spirit was seeking a vessel, any vessel, to vent her wrath upon those who had condemned her.
Desperate to protect themselves, local folk practitioners turned to an old practice: binding the spirit.
Her spirit was initially bound to a crudely made burlap and straw doll, which was then placed into a glass jar, sealed with wax, ritually sealed, then buried within the confides of a thick, heavy wooden box, which was sealed shut by two locks.
Many years passed, her story passed from generation to generation, along with the other "Witches" executed in Salem. Beneath the soil her spirit continued to rage in darkness.
It was in 2012 that, while attempting to dig up a "time capsule", that was buried by the Salem High School 50 years prior, in 1962, that instead of finding their time capsule the 2012 students, with many of the 1962 graduates looking on, discovered a nearly completely deteriorated wooden box.
That is where the story becomes less clear, the exact path that was taken with Elizabeth Howe's spirit. The story picks up, though, 9 years later in late 2021 when she resurfaced in the form you see for sale here today. A large antique bottle, a dirty, weathered "doll" of sorts, sealed again, containing the vengeful spirit of Elizabeth Howe.
The belief is that her spirit did, in fact, escape somewhere on/around that day in early September 2012, in Salem, but was captured again, either willingly or by force, to re-contain her spirit out of fear that the old folk lore would come to life again. That her repressed anger and violent outbursts would again begin to affect those around her.
We now seek a proper keeper for her spirit, and this once-in-a-lifetime relic.
